Centennial students have been busy in the library this month. Not because exams or essays are due, but to learn more about black history, or to just look for a good read from their favourite black author.

Every year Centennial College’s campus on Morningside Drive honours Black History Month with a prominent book display just inside the main entrance of the library.

“It’s always a popular attraction,” librarian Sonia Hayes said. “We try to have a book from every area: music, fiction, theatre….”

Nearly 60 books occupy the current display created by Sheila Ruth, a coordinator at the library. But these books won’t stay on display long.

“A lot have already been taken out,” Hayes said. “We’re always adding more and more.”
